MEET…Janet Lybolt

Janet Lybolt first came to Mamakating 22-years ago with her future husband David. “I fell in love with the area and made Dave a promise that someday he would be back on Lybolt Road,” she recalls.

That promise of return began on a part-time basis and became permanent nearly a decade ago.

David’s family had come to Mamakating in the mid-1700s, settling in Summitville where the current generation of the Lybolt family makes their home today.

“Mamakating is my adopted home. I wish I could take credit for the hundreds of years of Lybolt family history here but I’m not that old…and besides, I married in to that history. So if there is any credit to be had on that front, it belongs to Dave.”

Still, whether or not Janet Lybolt was born to this land, she has embraced her town (and now, her “ward”), choosing to serve it and her neighbors to her best ability.

And that ability is formidable.

Whether that entails championing the restoration of the historic Poplar Grove Cemetery, helping the Phillipsport Community Center win the $25,000 award from Sullivan Renaissance, serving on Mamakating’s Town Planning Board. Janet remained on the Planning Board until she was elected by her neighbors to represent them on the Mamakating Town Council.

Janet has honored the Lybolt family tradition in Mamakating and distinguished herself as a strong voice and a fierce advocate for the area and for her fellow town residents.

As the Councilwoman for what is now Ward 3, Janet authored resolutions opposing environmentally risky compressor stations in Mamakating and Sullivan County and again protecting our environment and our way of life from the encroachment of the “Thompson Education Center” high-density housing project.

In addition to her membership in the Basha Kill Area Association and the Mamakating Historical Society, Janet is a member of the Town of Mamakating and Sullivan County Democratic Committees and serves as Vice-President of the Democratic Women of Sullivan County.

Like so  many other strong and committed “blended families,” with now grown children -- Janet has two daughters, Carolyn and Laura. Dave has two daughters, Carolyn and Chrissy and a son Dave.

They dote on their children, grandchildren Ali and Nick, and their family pets.

Beyond advocating for her neighbors and constituents on the Mamakating Town Council, Janet’s active community service activities include:

This Primary is ONLY for Mamakating Ward 3.

Still, just because you can do a thing doesn’t always mean you should do that thing. Particularly now with so much change already afoot, we do not need a more divided Mamakating. Certainly as Democrats, we do not need a more divided party.

Make no mistake…I need your vote if I am to be our Democratic nominee for Town Council.

Our neighborhood has been my home for nearly a decade. I wish I could lay claim to the two centuries of Lybolts that have made Mamakating their home, but I married into the Lybolt family, so that credit goes to my husband David and his ancestors. But, the sense of belonging is all mine. It’s why I was working so hard for our community even before I was elected to represent you on our Town Council.

And when I say, “working hard” I don’t mean just showing up for the “photo ops.”

I mean doing the real, unglamorous, physical, backache-making work, whether it’s raking a public garden; repairing a fence; organizing a concert to restore the beauty and viability of our historic Poplar Grove Cemetery; helping our Phillipsport Community Center win that coveted $25,000 check from Sullivan Renaissance, or giving back to and recognizing our heroic fire fighters.

It also means working with our fellow Democratic Women to ensure that the gains we’ve made politically as women, continue to grow. As your representative on the Town Council, it means preventing the waste of tax dollars by finding better, more efficient and more cost-effective ways of getting things done. And it means fighting the threat of high-density housing developments from taking over our Town, hammering our environment, ruining our quality of life and diminishing our way of life.

With this website, we’ve tried to give you compelling reasons to support my re-election, to anticipate and answer your questions and concerns. If we’ve overlooked something that is important to you (or if you’d like to help me win re-election as your Councilwoman), give me a call at 845-888-3357.

Polls are open on Tuesday September 12th from Noon to 9:00 PM
At the Summitville Schoolhouse (museum).

Election winners are determined by the people who show up and vote. Don’t leave it for the other guy to do, because the other guy might be leaving it for you. This Primary election really is THAT important!

We really DO need your vote.  And if you need assistance getting to the polls,
give us a call and we’ll get you there and back.

As our website says (repeatedly):
“On September 12th Vote to Re-Elect Janet Lybolt.”
My thanks again for stopping by and in advance (hopefully) for your vote.

The last election proved that electoral victory belongs to the people who actually show up on Election Day. And that is NEVER truer than on a Primary Election Day

At Noon On September 12, 2017

The polls will open in Mamakating Ward 3 and “We the People” will be asked to select OUR Democratic Candidate for Town Council.

At 9:00 PM on September 12, 2017

Those Polls Will Close.

Those who voted will have made a choice.

Those who voted will have a voice…

 In Our Town…

In Our Future…

In Our Way of Life and

In Our Quality of Life.

WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

Please Make YOUR Voice Heard.

Please Make YOUR Vote Count.

 And Please…

Keep Janet Lybolt Working Hard For US On
The Mamakating Town Council.

On September 12th 2017
